Basic Building Materials
Building materials are the main merchandise of the builders’ merchants. Major building components are bricks, cement and tiles. These three components are the essential requirements to carry out effective construction of a building. There is a constant increase in the number of building materials production organizations due to the increasing demand of building components. Most of the advanced building components are ecological hazards which have dragged the attention of many eco-friendly people.
Previously, the basic building components comprised of stone, mud and brush. Mud was filled between the spaces of the bricks and used to act as concrete as well as insulation. In ancient times, dirt and clay were the basic building blocks. Soon, they were replaced by granite. Granite ruled the world of building materials as a basic building block from the Neolithic times to the modern times. Thatched roofs are one of the old and fancy traditions of roofing. Another building component is wood which can be used in any climatic condition due to diverse specifications of wood. However, wooden structures were amongst the most fashionable structures but soon, they were replaced by concrete structures.
Concrete is the latest building material which is basically a mixture of binder and aggregate. Concrete is applicable for any kind of building construction. Fly ash is added in concrete as a main constituent due to its elevated terminal insulation and lightweight. Nowadays, daily advancements in technology have resulted in the flooding of new building materials in the market place. These new arrivals include metals for facilitating the structural framework of massive buildings. Other newly launched building materials are asbestos, plastics and fabrics. Although asbestos needs to be handled with extreme caution due to its detrimental effect on health and many builders merchants won’t even stock it.
Chemically treated building components are also beneficial to give beautiful appearance to the inner and outer walls of the house. These materials include paper linoleum, solvent coatings, tar-based water resistant material and polyvinyl chloride clay. Building products can be recycled with the help of synthetic techniques. This benefits in terms of reduced costs and enhanced efficiency.
